The sad truth is I fall into this category too, just like you probably do. What we have to realize is that we are not "all set" anymore. In order to get ahead in this economy we need to change our mindset.
If you are like me, you were taught that you graduate high school, go to college, get a job and stay until retirement, and retire with a pension. This may have been the model of the American Dream when our parents were growing up, but this life plan doesn't work anymore. The days are gone when we could trade our time for money.
In this new economy, the key to success is to diversify your revenue streams. Don't keep all your eggs in one basket. Change your baskets to incubators, and put one egg in a few of them. Nurture them and as the eggs begin to crack (the eggs are money making endeavors) give them a little more love. The trick is to give the most attention to the egg producing the most bang for the buck without letting the other eggs perish.
